Are you being completely honest with yourself or do you have delusions?

Setting lofty goals and pursuing great challenges has driven many people and organizations to much success.  It has also destroyed good people and companies.

The difference is knowing when to engage and when to change plans.

Lots of things get in the way of making important decisions such as being afraid of  making the wrong decision.  A person’s ego and pride won’t let them evaluate the situation for what it really is vs. what they want it to be.

As our goldfish in the picture is demonstrating, we all want to be the big fish in either the small bowl or the large pond.  But strapping a shark fin to its back is just not what the fish is.  Attempting to be something it is not to gain an advantage will eventually catch up and cause big problems.

There is a phrase – fake it till you make it.

In some cases when you are in the midst of developing yourself you do have to take on the vision of being able to achieve in order to progress.  At some point if you continue to fake it but don’t progress then you are just having delusions that something is magically going to change.

This week take a look at yourself.  Are you the big fish in a small bowl or large pond?  Are you being true to yourself and using your competencies to build yourself and your business? Have you strapped on some fake bravado which could be getting in the way of your progress?

I realize it is difficult to be objective in these matters so call upon a colleague you trust for their opinion.  If you want a neutral third party, give JKL Associates a call at (313) 527-7945 to support your future.
