Procrastination
One of the largest enemies of business success is people waiting for conditions to change before they take action.
By Definition: Procrastination is the act of delaying, inactivity resulting in something being put off until a later time, slowness as a consequence of not getting around to it.
We all procrastinate on various things in life. From visiting the doctor for the annual physical to doing taxes to making out a last will and testament.
We also procrastinate at the office. Calling that new suspect, having that difficult talk with an underperforming employee, making that collection call to a good client who has become a late payer.
So why is it that we procrastinate?
It may be fear dealing with an outcome that we dont want to deal with.
It may be confidence dealing with a subject matter that you have not prepared or become knowledgeable about.
It may be your personal make up shy, introverted and just dont like engaging in certain actions.
What ever the reason, those reasons are not going to change unless you make a conscious decision to take action and make a change. This critical point is why procrastination continues daily in all walks of life.
This week take a look at just one thing you have been putting off for a while. Put a plan in place with specific dates and actions to be taken. Hold yourself accountable to your plan and when complete, reward yourself with some small treat.
Regardless of your drive for results and success, each of us from time to time struggle with procrastination. Breaking it down into manageable pieces and putting in place the steps to take action are the building blocks to overcoming the delay.
