Election Day Results

Well you have had a whole day to think about the results of Tuesday’s National Election for President and all of the local and state candidates and proposals.

Some of us are happy and some of us are sad depending on where you cast your vote.

All of us regardless of what took place must now take action in our businesses to move forward.  With the election, many businesses put short term projects on hold pending the outcome of the race.  That has now been decided and we must get off the let’s wait and see to moving back into action and get off the sideline.

It is already November and 2013 is right around the corner.  The holiday season is rapidly approaching so end of the year sales efforts and next year business plan need to be finalized.  We can either use the joy of the results to propel us forward or we need to dig down deep, dust ourselves off and get on with turning the economy around at the small business level regardless of government actions.

The greatest impact on the local, state and national economy will still come from Small to medium size businesses.  This is where real job creation starts and ends.  It might be great for the evening news to talk about the 200-500 new jobs of a large business but it is the 1000 jobs of various small businesses that have the greatest impact on the quality of life at work and at play.

2013 will be no walk in the park.  There is plenty to fix in the economy and the recession has still not been turned around.  It will take sometime for the government to move forward with new/additional programs but as business leaders we have not arrived at our current potential by waiting.  We still have about 30  real business days left in 2012 to make the best of the calendar year.

Starting today, look at your business and decide what three things you can bring to action before the end of 2012 that will more effectively position you and your business to have a better 2013.  Write them down and share them with your team.  Review the progress on them weekly and make adjustments as additional details present themselves.

Again you may have either a happy or sad face this first Thursday after the election but now is not the time to sit and ponder.  Now is the time for action to close out 2012 and set up 2013 for great results.
