So do you have Emotional Intelligence?
Big topic to cover in a short 3 minute read so I wont try to cover it in detail but just an overview to make you aware it is real. It is part of everyday life. It impacts work and home life. It is not a soft feel good kind of thing.
Emotional Intelligence is the ability to sense, understand and effectively apply the power and acumen of emotions to facilitate high levels of collaboration and productivity. (Cooper)
At a very primitive level, every one has emotions which are triggered in the subconscious in nanoseconds and manifests in behavior which are either good or not so good for the situation. The questions is do you know your Emotional Quotient and how it may be impacting your success either positively or negatively?
Your emotions when not managed or understood can cloud your interactions. When you are heavily emotionally charged you may not see or interact productively in many situations. This can lead to emotional dominos among your colleagues and family members. Once the first one is tipped over then every one downstream gets impacted.
To give yourself a chance to better understand, we need to look at the dimensions of your Emotional Quotient. They are: Self-Awareness, Self-Regulation, Motivation, Empathy and Social Skills. By knowing, understanding and appreciating how you manage and or react using these elements can be the difference between a cloudy day and a clear day in dealing with others.
The challenge is that most of us cant and dont have the skills or capabilities to look at someone and guess their level of emotion. The good news is there are tools to bring light to help you understand where your strengths are and weaknesses are with respect to knowing, understanding and applying your emotions in the world.
To help you get a picture of your Emotional Quotient, and better than a dozen roses for valentines day, give yourself the opportunity to find out about your emotional intelligence by requesting a complimentary assessment by emailing:
EQAssessment@thebusinessbuilderstoolbox.com
and requesting in the Subject a link to complete a short 15 minute questionnaire. There is no obligation. This offer is good through February 15, 2013.
