Back to the Future
Well, October 21, 2015 is now behind us and Marty McFly! For those of you with that puzzled look on your face, in the movie Back to the Future, October 21, 2015 was one of the dates Marty visited in his special car.
If in business, we hade the opportunity to travel to the future to best understand what decisions we made today would impact the outcomes, we might just rethink some of our decisions. On the other hand knowing the outcome might just cause us to make even risker decisions and tilt the outcome to another direction.
As business leaders we understand and take responsibility for the decisions we make. It is all part of the role of owner and executive. We gather data and interrupt it to the best of our abilities and then make a best educated plan to project a given outcome. Sometimes we win and other times we learn valuable lessons. Without the associated risk and reward attached to ownership then being a leader would simply be just another job.
Yes, anyone can take the simple way to putting in time and collecting a paycheck. It is leadership and the willingness to fail and continually risk failing that grows success. Unfortunately, many in our society and educational systems are trying to dumb this down and in their eyes level the playing field so everyone can have a equal chance. Sorry to say, if you can’t take the heat then get out of the kitchen!
Businesses need worked, employees, staff etc. but with out leaders with vision and willingness to risk all you don’t have companies and thus no employment.
This week go back to the most recent future and look at your decisions of the past week. Did they move your business forward and expand its opportunity or did you just settle for status quo?
Once you start to lose your edge then the competition swoops in and takes your lunch away.
